"War of Northern Aggression"?

by: Clark

Tue Feb 10, 2009 at 13:12:45 PM CST

According to Republican State Rep. Bryan Stevenson, the proposed pro-choice "Freedom of Choice Act" is the biggest federal power grab since the "War of Northern Aggression."

And I thought Scott Rupp was overly dramatic.

Rep. Don Calloway got Stevenson to apologize for his, um, overstatement.

UPDATE: Via Fired Up, Jason Rosenbaum has audio on YouTube of Stevenson's ridiculousness.

Seems to be getting harder and harder for these (2.33 / 3)
Republicans to hide their true selves.  And it's pretty ugly.

Yeah (3.00 / 3)
Equating the pro-life side with the Confederacy is not exactly a smart framing stance.

And I thought that Claiborne Fox Jackson's government fled Southwest Missouri a long time ago to govern from Texas.

To be clear (3.00 / 1)
The first sentence is in reference to what Stevenson said. Guess he's not going to be Stonewall, he'll be Stonehead instead.

Hailing from the land of milk, honey, and Democrats

Is he talking about that dustup back in the 1860s - the War of Southern Treason?

It is so embarassing that in our state (3.00 / 1)
we have such morons in the legislature.  Not surprising, just embarassing.

Think of the republican dominated General Assembly... (0.00 / 0)

Everyone know the correct moron spelling of is "moran."

This idiot is a teacher.

I sure would like to ask what was the first aggressive active the North did that provoked the "War of Northern Aggression."

Now, I live in the real world and the answer is: elect the first Republican to be President.  It was the election which set off the slave states secession.

This moran is a Republican!!!!!!!!!

War of Northern Aggression Response (0.00 / 0)
I can see the uproar hear, However most people North, South, black, white, liberal, or conservative have a HUGE misunderstanding of the War. That is due to how it is taught in the Fed back schools and Hollywood. If any of you stand up for what you say you do I CHALLENGE YOU to purchase one book titled Myths of AMERICAN Slavery by an author named Kennedy.  I challenge you the politically correct liberal people to really Investigate the TRUTH.  Lincoln made it clear with HIS statements that he was NOT fighting a war to end slavery and im sure his racial comments will set your heart on fire.  His proclamation was not made in until 2 years into the war and it stated that slaves ONLY in 'rebellious' areas were 'freed' by his proclamation. He even went as far as to say that slaves within he union were NOT free by this including the 12 parishes of Louisiana that were under Federal control in 1863. He hasd even stated that if rebellous territories would give up their 'rebellion' they could KEEP their slaves. In other words he 'freed' people the he had No control over and left the ones in bondage that he could free. In other words lincoln did not free ANYONE. Slaves were NOT free until the 13th amendment...after lincoln was dead. (The last state to free slaves; DELAWARE 1906. The first state to attempt to do away with slavery VIRGINIA. What state FIRST LEGALIZED slavery???? MASSACHUSSETTES) Propaganda...no more, no less. Lincoln ordered the mass murder of thousands of native americans and fought a war that caused nearly 700,000 american lives and ruined half the states and yes he himself had said more than once that Any state that wants to leave the Union has the right to do so.  States were viewed as sovereign. Secession was perfectly LEGAL. It was NOT treason. If all of it gets you fired up like it does me INVESTIGATE IT. No matter where a person is from and what their political stand is it is time for the TRUTH to be known.  Dig deep and open your minds. Get that Myths of AMERICAN Slavery book (it is highly documented) and learn the facts. YOu will most likely get real fired up when you realize the wrong people have been persecuted for 150 years.  All slaves sailed thru Northern ports on Northern ships under the stars and stripes....not 'Confederate' flags. Slaves were black, red, and yes WHITE. here is a shocker for you slave owners were white, red, and yes BLACK. In Lousinana there were some free blacks that owned lots of slaves. TRUE!! Slavery existed in both the South and the NORTH. free blacks were NOT allowed to settle in many Northern states including lincolns's illinois. Segregation and jim crow laws began in the NOrth. The South was NOT segregated until it was FORCED by the North as part of 'Reconstruction'. (Segregation did Not end in the North until 1954) During the War all blacks in the Northern army were in segregated regiments. In the South blacks fought side by side with whites. 65,000 black soldiers fought for the SOuth and another 200,000 helped in other war efforts in the South. The five 'civilized tribes' of Native Americans fought for the South including a famous General Watie. I could write a book about this. By the way, I do believe it was the Northerners who went South and waged War for five years....NOt the other way around.  Get pissed off at me and say whatever, But you may just be spitting in the face of what you beleive in.  Myths of AMERICAN Slavery and check out some REAL lincoln books like The Real Lincoln.  Learn why he really fought this bloody war and how he really felt about the black race.  Get pissed at me, but I challenge you to learn the Facts. One person for TRUTH...no matter who you are

FYI (0.00 / 0)
when lincoln asked Governor Jackson for 75,000 men, Gov Jackson stated that he would Not provide One man for  lincolns UNjust, UNholy, and ILLEGAL War upon on sister Southern states. Union General met with Govenor Jackson and Missouri Confederate General early in the war. THe Gov said that Missouri would stay out of the War if the Feds would stay out of Missouri and leave 'her' alone. The UNion General, reply was 'I would rather see every man, woman, and child of the state dead then submit to Missouri! The war was on!! Governor Jackson and  Gen Price called the Missouri State Guard into action. The state was soon flooded with yankee troops from other states. 1st Illnois, but even sates as far away as Wisconsin and Michigan. The government officials left jeff city and met in SW Missouri and passed secession. A non-elected Rump government was 'installed' in Jeff cIty by the Feds. The LEGAL ELECTED government passed secession oct 31, 1861 and was officially Admitted and REcognized by the confederate government. the yankee government refused to acknowledge this, but it happened. THE LEGAL government 12th state CSA. Kentucky was the opposite. Their elected officials stayed Union. It was a secondary party that seeked secession.  They sent a couple members to the COnfederate Congress, thou represented NEVER officailly like MO. Thats Not all. Maryland was a Southern state. At the thought of secession lincoln ILLEGALLY arrested thousands of maryland citizens (without cause) in order to see that they did Not pass a secession. California and New Mexico(territory) drew up orders of secession. So there were more than the 13 sates represented by the Confederate Congress. Finally, that state called West Virginia that formed in 1863 during the war.....its secession was NOT legal BUT, Yet was allowed to become a state. Twelve states of the South secessions were Legal but were attacked for it.
