HRCC robocall in the 121st Legislative District: desperation and homophobia

You can smell the republican flop sweat.

Today the House republican Campaign Committee ran a robocall in the 121st Legislative District attacking Courtney Cole (D) in terms that have never been seen before in this district:

Female voice: This is an urgent alert for all Christian families. Before you vote you should know that state representative candidate Courtney Cole has taken hundreds in campaign donations from a representative of the hard core pornography industry, including gay pornography. By allowing her Democratic campaign to be funded by those who are involved with and support hard core pornography Courtney Cole clearly does not share our Christian family values. On election day stand up for what's right and decent by voting no on Courtney Cole. Paid for by House Republican Campaign Committee, Inc.

Evidently they don't care about the Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, or Wiccan (among many others) families in the district. Or maybe the HRCC feels less urgency for those families. Are they saying their favorite candidate feels the same way? Just asking. They know him better than we do.

A baseless accusation with no substance. Check. Exploiting religion. Check. Homophobia. Check. That's the Missouri republican party for you. And those ain't exactly family values.

The folks in the HRCC who paid for this robocall were walking with Denny Hoskins (r-noun, verb, CPA) and wearing his campaign t-shirt in last weekend's homecoming parade in Warrensburg:

Dave Hageman, Missouri Executive Director of Victory Enterprises (left) and
Robert Knodell, Executive Director of the House Republican Campaign Committee (right)

That makes it difficult for Denny Hoskins (r-noun, verb, CPA) to distance himself from the HRCC, don't you think?

Do you think he cares? Just asking.

I found that message on my machine, too (0.00 / 0)
So, I called the Republican Party in Jefferson City.

The person apparently went to this page. It has the only names and telephone numbers of officers of the House Republican Campaign, Inc. I could find on the net.

You might want to call the two people whose numbers are there to ask who are the pornographers and how much money they have given Cole.

If they say they are merely on the finance side, you might want to say why are they so ignorant about the ads they are financing. Isn't it a Christian value not to lie?  If there are no such people, then they are violating a Christian value.

Of course, if you have time, you might want to ask why are they financing ads that show a political opponent in a mug shot.  Is this the kind of discourse appropriate in a democracy?

Well (3.00 / 2)
i've heard who they're basing the claim on. Of course it's still a total lie. The person referenced is a state rep, first term, from STL. They think that because that person had some legal associations pre-legislature, they can really unleash the lies and deception.

Considering it's 6 days out, there's time to really expose these tactics from the NRCC. Of course, lies run faster than the truth.

Really? (0.00 / 0)
I was trying to ask the treasurers if they know and one of them said who their research firm was.

I will try again tomorrow.

I heard the name of the state Rep from someone I know up here. Essentially in a land that truth forgot, a state rep who before going to the legislature gave legal advice to a porn movie producer is "a representative of the porn industry". Using that logic, every lawyer in public office could be called a representative of their worst client.

There's an opportunity to send a message that these sort of campaign tactics will backfire, and that's by making sure that the people who use these tactics lose their election. Politicians aren't stupid, just opportunistic, and not a lot of them will let themselves march over a cliff.

He did the legal work (0.00 / 0)
on the compliance papers. That's it. He didn't help make the porn in any way.

[ Parent ]
that, times 100 or so (0.00 / 0)
put it a lot better than I did. Essentially it's a lie. There's not enough room between deception and lie to mean a thing here. If deception is on the couch with the lie, it's a lie being spread by people who only talk values but forget them when convenient.

If a person wants to win in the worst way, (0.00 / 0)
how will that person govern?

My only wish for Denny Hoskins and the entire leadership of the Missouri Republican Party is that they never have another restful night's sleep.

A radio ad from Courtney Cole's campaign:

Voices: I'm voting for Courtney Cole...

...because she is passionate...

...she will support education...

...she's working very hard...

...she supports small business...

...she believes in Johnson County...

...integrity is important to me...

...she'll be a strong leader...

...because she's an independent voice for the people of Johnson County...

...she will protect our Second Amendment rights...

...she will put the people of Johnson County first...

...she is a woman of character...

Announcer: It's time to bring honesty and integrity back to Jefferson City. It's time for new leadership. It's time for Courtney Cole.

Paid for by Cole for House, Laurie Squiric, treasurer.

Thank Steve Kraske (0.00 / 0)
Kraske has just posted this story on Primebuzz.com.

I wonder if the reason he can't get a hold of the two people whose names appear on the Missouri Ethics filings is because I talked to them yesterday.

I muddied the waters for this article; on the other hand, they know they can't defend this garbage.
