Your Friday news dump from the office of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.

Kenneth Hutchinson, the UM system vice president for human resources, said he plans to stay professionally active after he leaves the UM system, but still plans to enjoy retirement...

...UM system General Counsel Bunky Wright, who also works at the UM system office, said he and Hutchinson have been friends since childhood.

"I have the greatest respect for him," Wright said. "He's just an outstanding person."

Hutchinson said that although he hopes to do some professional work at a human resources firm he started, he doesn't want to do too much...

...with the childhood friend who just so happens to have recently received an $80,000 contract for the search for a new president at the University of Central Missouri.

No, this is not a story from The Onion, it's just the same old way of doing business in the State of Missouri. And no, we haven't received a copy of the contract per our Missouri Sunshine request. Do you think anyone in the Missouri Attorney General's office would care about that?

Dandurand, Wright Named to Board of Governors

WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 9, 2009) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has named two new representatives to the University of Central Missouri governing board to succeed members whose terms expired.

Marvin "Bunky" Wright, Columbia, and Mary Dandurand, Warrensburg, were appointed to the Board of Governors for six-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2015. Wright succeeds Larry Fick, Columbia, and Dandurand fills a seat previously held by Deleta Williams, Warrensburg. Fick's term ended July 23 and Williams' term concluded Aug. 20, although both continued to serve the board until their successors were named. Wright and Dandurand's appointments must now be confirmed by the Missouri Senate.

A Democrat, Dandurand graduated from Central Missouri in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in clothing and textiles. She has worked as a rental property manager in the Warrensburg community for JEDRO Properties - The Tiehen Group since 2004, and was involved in the local residential real estate market from 2001-2004 as a licensed real estate agent with DeLozier Realty Company/Key Realty Company.

Dandurand served the university community from 1993-1995 as coordinator of Student Volunteer Programs, where her accomplishments included getting students, faculty and staff involved in Habitat for Humanity projects, and initiating a student volunteer organization. She also served from 1980-1986 as assistant director of the Self Instruction Center/Computer Lab, where her duties included providing support to faculty and students in media presentations and computer lab work.

Wright is a Democrat who graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1964, and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from MU in 1958. He has an extensive background in higher education, having served as general counsel for the University of Missouri System, 1998-2008, and as legal counsel for the MU System, 1967-1979. He served as a consultant to the UCM Board of Governors and president and interim general counsel for several months during the 2008-2009 academic year.

Wright has been in private practice since April 1, 2008. His experience in the legal profession includes associate in the firm of Finch, Finch, Knehans & Cochran, Cape Girardeau, 1964-1979, and partner in the firm of Knight, Ford, Wright, Atwill, Parshall & Baker, LLC, 1979-1998. Throughout his career, he has represented education clients such as the Columbia Public School System, Westminster College in Fulton, Columbia College and Stephens College in Columbia. He is past president of the Missouri Bar Association and past president of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.

Charged with setting policy for the institution, UCM's Board of Governors is the university's chief governing body, and is composed of eight members who are appointed by the state's governor. The student member of the board is the only non-voting member.
