...First, a tip of my hat to Missouri State Representative Cynthia Davis who opposes subsidizing lunches for low income children during summer break because "Hunger can be a positive motivator." [laughter] Exactly. [laughter] Without hunger how will children ever learn to push a lever with their snouts to get a food pellet? [laughter] And as an owner of the Back to Basics Christian Bookstore Representative Davis knows these kids don't need a hand out, they need a pep talk. It's like Jesus said in Matthew, "I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was hungry and you said 'Get a job.'" [laughter][applause] So,[applause] Representative Davis is truly looking out for Missouri's children. But, who's looking out for Representative Davis? Could it be that she's never risen above the state legislature because she developed the anti-motivating habit of eating? [laughter] We must help her folks. People of Missouri, if you see Representative Davis at a restaurant or at a hot dog stand [laughter] or even through the window of her own dining room [laughter], do the right thing and, and take her food away. [laughter] [applause]...

Who's responsible for Cyn Davis? (0.00 / 0)
Wouldn't it be more effective to ridicule the people who voted for her?  Letting poor Cyn take all the heat lets the real stooges off the hook.  Poking fun at the wingnuts she represents might even set the stage for someone slightly progressive to run in that benighted district.

Not exactly (3.00 / 1)
Uh, the voters are always right, at least in their own opinions. Not all of the people in the 19th Legislative District are nut jobs and not all of the people who voted for Cynthia Davis in the last election are nut jobs. Elections are won by margins.

State Representative - District 19 - Summary

 Davis, Cynthia L. REP 13,401 57.4%
 Cook, Debbie DEM 9,140 39.1%
 Malan, David J. IND 818 3.5%

Total Votes   23,359

Just nine to ten percent of the voters who voted for Cynthia Davis in 2008 have to change their "habits". You don't do so by calling them nut jobs, you do it by giving them an environment where they can make the right choice.

As Cynthia Davis' notoriety increases (she is term limited) and her district garners attention many of those voters who voted for her because "she's a nice lady" will think twice about sending another nut job to the General Assembly. Next time those voters who haven't been paying attention just might vote to end all that negative attention by electing a sane person. It has happened before and it could happen here.
